French 1, Conversational Languages, World Cultures

Class descriptions

  • Welcome to French 1! This high school level class is offered over the course of the entire school year. The students will focus on reading, writing, speaking and listening in the target language. Homework will be assigned nightly and should be taken seriously. Students who do not do their homework, turn it in late, or who have attendance issues most often have the most difficulty with being successful in class. The tests and quizzes are very rigorous and the homework is designed to help students study and prepare.

Welcome to Conversational Languages! In this class we will study French for 9 weeks and Spanish for 9 weeks. We do this to aid our students in making a decision about which language may interest them as either 8th graders or high school students. The students will learn basic conversational vocabulary/phrases and will have many opportunities to practice in class. In addition, please be on the lookout for homework in the planner from time to time. Students need to practice their skills at home so they stay fresh.

Welcome to World Cultures! In this class we will explore Francophone, Hispanic, and ancient Roman cultures. We do this to encourage our students to study the foreign languages (French, Spanish or Latin) we offer here at Shelburne. We also do mini-lessons in French and Spanish for fun…things like basic colors and numbers. We play a lot of games, and learn by doing hands-on activities and having discussions.

I look forward to working with you!
