Mrs. Jennifer Goss

I am a 2002 graduate of Kutztown University with a B.S. in Secondary Education/Social Studies/History & Political Science.  In 2009, I graduated with a M.A. in Holocaust & Genocide Studies from West Chester University.  Prior to moving to Augusta County, I spent 10 years teaching Social Studies at Fleetwood Area High School in Fleetwood, PA.  At Fleetwood I taught various courses including AP US Government & Politics, Senior Government, Freshman American Geography/History and 2 Holocaust electives.  In the evenings, I teach US History at Blue Ridge Community College.

A big part of my work in education has been centered around Holocaust education.  In 2010, I was selected to take part of in the USHMM Museum Teacher Fellow's Program with 13 other educators from around the United States and in years since have been privileged to facilitate several programs for USHMM. I am a trainer for Echoes and Reflections for the ADL and  I also do work locally as a part of an informal group known as the Shenandoah Valley Holocaust Education Consortium.  In 2016, I was privileged to be selected as a Dawbarn Award Winner and in 2017, I was named the Virginia DAR Outstanding History Teacher and the Augusta County Historical Society's History Teacher of the Year. In the Fall of 2005, I was named Rotary Teacher of the Semester by the Fleetwood Rotary Club. In 2008, I was named a winner of the "Best Practices in Holocaust Education Award," by the Pennsylvania Holocaust Education Council.  In the summer of 2008, I traveled to Berlin & various areas of Poland to visit sites associated with the Holocaust.  The following summer, I took part in the Holocaust and Jewish Resistance Teacher's Program which takes teachers to sites associated with the Holocaust in Poland and Israel. From 2010-2012, I worked with colleagues at FAHS to create the documentary Misa's Fugue.  In 2014, the film was nominated for 2 Emmy's in the Documentary and Screenwriting categories.

I live in Augusta County with my husband, Matt and our dogs - an Irish Setter named Killian and a Chocolate Lab, Reese.  In December 2013, we welcomed a daughter, Ashleigh, into our lives.  In my "free" time, I enjoy reading, traveling, cars, skiing, photography, boating and equestrian sports with my off-the-track Thoroughbred, Henry, who also lives on our farm with his donkey pal, Suede and Ashleigh's mini-horse, Spanky.
