  • Strategic Plan Feedback on the SCS Strategic Plan

     

    Each school board is required by the Virginia Standards of Quality to adopt a divisionwide comprehensive plan to improve classroom instruction and student achievement.  A draft three-year plan for Staunton City Schools has been created with input from school board members, administrators, and instructional coaches. We would like to broaden our level of input to include students, families, community members, and all staff.  Please provide feedback from your perspective regarding action steps listed in the plan, by completing the survey at the following link:

    • The survey will remain available through Friday, April 5, 2019.  While there is no requirement to include a name in the survey, please be reminded that this survey is subject to Freedom of Information Act and may be viewed as part of public record.
    • To view a draft copy of the divisionwide comprehensive plan in full, please click on the link,or visit Central Office (116 West Beverley Street, Staunton) to view a hard copy.
    • If you would like to speak at a public hearing regarding the strategic plan, please attend the school board meeting scheduled for Monday, May 13, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in City Hall Chambers.

    Based on the recommendations provided through the survey and public hearing, the strategic plan will be reviewed and updated again.  The school board anticipates final approval of a plan during the May 13th school board meeting.

    Registration for the 2019 Miles for Meals 5K is now open!


    The race will be held on April 19 at Gypsy Hill Park. Start times are
    1 p.m. for Pre-K, 1:30 p.m. for middle and high schools and 2:30 p.m. for elementary schools.


    Parents and guardians may run for a small donation of $25.
    School staff and students run for free with coupon code SCSKID1.
    Proceeds support the School Nutrition Program.

    1. Spring Break is next week March 25-29th….. We hope everyone has a wonderful break! See you back on April 1st.

     

    1. SCS Miles for Meals 5K registration closes April 10.  Signup now!  Sponsors & volunteers still needed! Contact the Office of School Nutrition for details or questions. Race registration links are available on all SCS webpages. Students run free, check out with coupon code SCSKID1. Family can participate with child, for a small registration fee of $25+ processing. Additional donations welcome. Funds raised go to support our 5K initiative and our School Nutrition program.

     

    1. Cinderella Project Invitations are now available in the counseling department.  Please see your counselor if you need one.  The Store will be open every Saturday beginning March 16- May 18 from 10 am - 3pm.  If you have any questions, please come to the counseling department for more information.

     

    1. The Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation and the Lucy F. Simms Center are having their Prom Dress Drive/Give Away again this year! They are collecting gently used dresses, accessories, and shoes for local girls who are looking to attend their high school prom. Collections are being taken now, Monday thru Friday at the Lucy F. Simms Center. The Prom Dress Giveaways portion will be held on Saturday, April 6 from 12:00pm-3:00pm at the Lucy F. Simms Centerat 620 Simms Ave. Harrisonburg. For more information or to get involved call 540-437-9213.

     

    1. The Spring Blood Drive is scheduled for Tuesday, April 2nd. If you are interested in donating blood, please see Ms. Knoxville in room #103 for a permission form and to schedule a time donated.

     

    1. Kurtz/McGrath Scholarship……. Each year the Robert E. Lee Athletic Booster Club has been proud to give two (2) $500 scholarships to deserving Lee Athletes with their post high school education. These scholarships will be given to one boy and one girl. Applications are in the main office and guidance department. Applications are due by May 1st.
