• Attendance Matters

Students are expected to be at school, on time, and stay for the duration of the school day every day.  Parents are allowed 5 parent notes (1 for each day of absence) to excuse a student from school due to illness or another extenuating circumstance.  After all 5 parent notes are used, parents must provide a note from a health care provider stating that the student should be excused for the specified dates. Appointments will generally not excuse a student for an entire school day. An excuse for a family trip requires prior approval by a school administrator and should be submitted in writing to be considered.  Once a student accrues 7 unexcused absences, the school is required by law to enforce Compulsory School Attendance as defined in the Code of Virginia.  According to the Virginia Department of Education, a student who misses 18 or more days of school, rather excused or unexcused, is considered a chronically absent student.
