Ms. Tracy ChittumPre-School TeacherHi, my name is Tracy Chittum. I have my BA in Psychology and teacher certification for PK thru 5 from Mary Baldwin College and my Master of Arts in Early Childhood Special Education from James Madison University. I have taught preschool for 17 years for Staunton City Schools. Before preschool, I taught the self-contained special education class for 2 years for Staunton City. I have been married to my Steve, for 34 years! We have two special needs children, my son is my biological child and my daughter joined our family through adoption (from Korea) when she was 8 months old. We also have a three year old, crazy Jack Russell rescue! I teach the inclusion class with Laurie Nolley and Tonya Garletts at Dixon Preschool. Special Education is very close to my heart. I feel that all children deserve to be accepted and respected by all of society! What better place to start teaching this than preschool. I feel strongly that all children have something special to offer the world and they have every right to receive an education and coexist, making the world a better place. My hope is to touch every child that enters my classroom. To make them feel special, safe, accepted and respected. I hope to help the children learn to accept others as they are, to develop empathy for others and to want to help others. I also strive to prepare them for Kindergarten by teaching academic readiness skills, to make good choices, to be independent and to love learning.
