Readingand Writing empowerfor lifeThe Mission of the Powerhouse is to be the literacy center of the school.
The Vision of the Powerhouse staff is to achieve this mission by:
The Goal of the Powerhouse is to assist Shelburne Middle School in achieving its Annual School Goals.Finding a "great book to read"
- promoting life-long reading and learning both for pleasure & for information,
- collaborating with staff to improve learning for all students,
- assisting teachers in locating quality resources for instructing students, &
- encouraging staff and students in becoming effective users of ideas and information.
Shelburne's library is here to meet the needs of all students in grades six though eight, ages eleven to fourteen. This requires a wide variety of materials, and what is interesting and appropriate for eleven-year-olds may not be interesting and/or appropriate for fourteen-year-olds and vice versa. Therefore, students are encouraged to make decisions about their own reading material based upon their personal interests and age. If a student chooses a book that makes them or their parents uncomfortable, they should exchange it for a more enjoyable book. Mrs. Morris and Mrs. Davis are here to guide them, and help them select a "great book to read."Parents can help students enjoy the library by asking them what they are reading and talk to them about their choices.
