Robert E. Lee High School Facility Project
Providing safe, nurturing school environments is critical to meeting the community’s expectations. The School Board tasks staff with the daily oversight of building maintenance and receives reports at its monthly meetings related to ongoing operational issues. Major improvement projects and construction projects are an annual part of long-term planning. In the winter of 2011, the City added a $75 million Lee High School item to the Capital Investment Plans understanding that the aging facility had significant problems. City Council has subsequently approved CIPs that include funding for updating or building a new facility in 2019. Understanding that CIPs provide a projection of City needs and priorities, these projects are dependent on available funding.
The School Board issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) in the fall of 2013 for a study of the high school structure, its grounds, and its feasibility for supporting instruction in the decades ahead. This webpage has been created to provide a central repository for stakeholders to obtain information about this ongoing process. This webpage will be updated periodically to include additional information as the School Board continues this long process to best meet the needs of our students.
