Heather Smith-Reeps _______________________ Math Coach
As an instructional coach for mathematics, my job is to help teachers to fully incorporate student centered mathematics into their daily math workshops. I provide teachers with resources in the form of articles and books and facilitate workshops in order to help them keep up to date on best educational practices for mathematics. I freqently co-teach with homeroom teachers who are trying out new ideas in their classrooms, helping them with questions they might have about content or facilitation of the lesson. I also meet with teachers weekly during planning to assist them in writing common assessments, reviewing student work, and unpacking the standards. In short, I support teachers in their individual journeys as math educators.
I also serve as the gifted coordinator for McSwain, which makes me the person who oversees the process of identification for students.
