Ms. Van Fossen
Hello! My name is Ms. Van Fossen and I am so incredibly excited to be starting my 4rd year of 3rd grade at McSwain. I am even more excited to be your teacher and getting to know each and every one of you. It is incredibly important to me to create a classroom environment where each student feels welcome and safe to be themselves. I try hard to establish a family atmosphere where we look out for each other and encourage one another to do our very best in all that we do. We are going to be doing a lot of learning this year, but having even more fun doing it. Here's to a FANTASTIC year! I look forward to meeting you and your families!
Below, I have included more information about myself.
I was born and raised right here in the Queen City of Staunton and went through Staunton City Schools. In 2012 I graduated from Robert E. Lee High School (now Staunton High School) and went on to attend Bridgewater College right up the road. I started my collegiate career as a Business and Health and Exercise Science double major in the hopes of becoming a Sports Manager. Fortunately, my love for children and the chance to have an impact was too strong and by the end of my first semester I had changed my major to study Elementary Education.
I had the great opportunity of student teaching right here at McSwain Elementary under the phenomenal Shannon Love and absolutely fell in love with not only the students, but all the faculty and staff.
I graduated from Bridgewater College in May of 2016 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Liberal Studies and received my PreK-6 teaching licensure the following June.
McSwain has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere with a real passion for making a difference in the lives of children not only academically, but personally as well. I am so incredibly grateful to have the chance to continue my own teaching career in such a wonderful place.
In addition to my love for working with children, my second love would absolutely be soccer. I have played soccer for about 14 years and try and play whenever I get the chance. I am also now the Head JV Girls Soccer Coach at Staunton High School (formally Robert E. Lee). I also enjoy running and getting my dance on in the local YMCA's Zumba classes. I love spending time with my family and friends, watching Grey's Anatomy and Scandal as well as my guilty pleasure, The Bachelor and Bachelorette. :) More than anything, I love to have fun and laugh as much as possible!
